Haikus

animal

i am organic
part of the earth, not above
learn from old creatures

different timelines
ecological viewpoints
in relationship

breakfast

we start each day with
darts and tea, a place to sit,
sweet solitude shared.

changeling

moth princess bursts out

only a temporary

chrysalis before

consumed

to minimize plastic use

to bring your own mug

to compost the scraps

curated

withering plant stock
hidden from the sunshine warmth
overcrowded trees

frozen

wet leaves in puddles
decaying under the weight
suspended, changed state

grounded

old growth douglas fir
parent trees nurture babies
connected by roots

jaded

gangrene forest spleen
wish upon a nature dream
concrete cold city

library

my library is trees
glass windows, books all over
vases replace gloom

made of matter

valuing myself
it’s okay to take up space

my feelings matter

momentum

a fault line runs here,
waiting to tremble awake.

the moon looks elsewhere.

overheard from the eight-year-old kid on the bus

plastic takes thousands

and thousands of years to break

down into small bits

remembrance day poem

remember the wars
fought on land not our but theirs
remember the lives

round belly

bodies deserve love
all sizes colours shapes forms

you are of the earth

water cycle

garbage drowned river
oceanic thunderclouds
sky weeps acid rain
